The only thing better than sipping on a tropical cocktail, is sipping on a tropical cocktail by the beach.
Lucky for us, local hot spot Boston's on the Beach was recently voted one of the best places to do so, landing on FloridaBeachBar.com's list of Florida's 10 best beach bars for the second year in a row.
The oceanfront bar along A1A in Delray was chosen by online voters from a group of 281 bars in Florida. Voting took place in the month of April, with a total of 23,000 votes cast.
To create buzz around the contest and rally voters, Boston's mixologist Millie Wilkinson created a signature Pink Flamingo cocktail, modeled after the pink flamingo rating system FloridaBeachBar.com uses to review the state's beach bars (instead of stars).
"We have been serving locals in Delray Beach for over 35 years and are honored that our loyal patrons continue to vote for us and believe we deserve to be recognized as one of Florida’s best beach bars," general manager Mark DeAtley said in a release.
Boston's is a sports bar that celebrates Boston sports teams. While the upstairs restaurant, 50 Ocean, is an upscale bar and eatery, it's the outdoor bar, Sandbar, that provides the true beach bar experience, according to the FloridaBeachBar.com website:
"Anchoring the south end of Boston's on the Beach, the Sandbar's large tiki hut and bar help make it a perfect beach bar. Tables and chairs are scattered about a man-made beach. Play corn hole with your friend, listen to the music and dance in the sand. This tiki bar area, or the Rhum Shack, has everything you look for in a great beach bar."
The Delray Beach spot was the only South Florida beach bar to make the top 10 list, but other Palm Beach County favorites—including Square Grouper, Guanabanas, and Benny's on the Beach—were among the nominees.
Boston's on the Beach first landed a FloridaBeachBar.com review in 2010, putting it in the running for the best beach bar title. The site considers criteria such as proximity to a beach, food and live entertainment. Boston's has also made the top 10 list in 2012 and 2015.
