Local restaurants and bars are going green for a sustainable future.

The O.G.

If you haven’t heard of The O.G. yet, it’s a secret neighborhood cocktail bar that poses as a general store. (O.G. stands for Oceanside Grocers.) The bar, led by owner Challo Schott, is spearheading the mission for Delray Beach to become a straw-free and eco-friendly city. Schott has even teamed up with the Delray Beach Sustainability Board to host educational events for community bars and restaurants. 166 SE Second Ave., Delray Beach; 561.270.7600; ogdelray.com

Parrot Lounge

Thanks to Joe O’Donnell, manager of The World Famous Parrot Lounge, the restaurant and bar has eliminated all plastic products and switched to paper. The Parrot’s Facebook page proudly states, “Last year we used approximately 90,000 plastic straws. This year we will have used zero.” The Parrot is even listed as a “Surfrider Ocean Friendly Restaurant,” a program that offers restaurants an easy way to show their commitment to making sustainable choices for the ocean. 911 Sunrise Lane, Fort Lauderdale; 954.563.1493; parrotlounge.com

3030 Ocean

As a long-time supporter of sustainable seafood, 3030 Ocean chooses seafood species that are responsibly caught and abundant, avoiding species that are in danger of being overfished. To further help, 3030 Ocean crafted the Tipsy Turtle cocktail, which donates $1 of each sale to the sea turtle conservation fund. It’s made with Naked Turtle rum, Butterfly Pea syrup, Blue Curaçao, lime juice and is topped with a gummy sea turtle garnish. 3030 Holiday Drive, Fort Lauderdale; 954.765.3030; 3030ocean.com
