Skip the tequila next time you head to El Camino in downtown Delray, and try its new local brew.

In partnership with Funky Buddha Brewery, the local Mexican soul food restaurant and tequila bar has released a New England-style IPA called El Camino Haze, brewed with flaked oats as well as mosaic, citra and El Dorado hops to create an aromatic tropical flavor.

“It is one of the hottest new beer styles in craft beer right now, and a juicy IPA complements Mexican food very well,” Brian Albe, co-founder of Modern Restaurant Group, says.

El Camino Haze is now on tap at both El Camino and Funky Buddha’s Oakland Park Tap Room, and it’ll be free-flowing alongside traditional mimosas and bloody marys at sister restaurant Park Tavern every weekend during its bottomless brunch.

The brew will also be served at El Camino’s Fort Lauderdale location once it opens in March.

El Camino, known for its late-night happy hour and $2 Taco Tuesday, has been named to OpenTable’s Top 100 Hot Spots in America for the past three years. The local favorite offers a wide list of craft beer, cocktails, sangria and agave-based liquors, in addition to its signature Mexican cuisine.

Since the beer’s launch on Feb. 23, the reception from customers has been amazing, Albe says. He recommends pairing it with El Camino’s classic crispy fish tacos.

“The juicy IPA pairs really well due to the citrus flavors that complement the fish,” he says.

This isn’t the first time Modern Restaurant Group—which owns El Camino, Park Tavern and Cut 432 in Delray — has worked with Funky Buddha. Park Tavern and the local brewery previously collaborated on Last Buffalo in the Park, a Bourbon barrel-aged Imperial version of Funky Buddha’s decadent Last Snow porter, made with coconut and fresh roasted coffee.

“Our collaboration with Funky Buddha allows us to stay true to our mission in working with small breweries,” Albe says.
