The Boca Raton Museum of Art recently announced it will be building a new landscape architecture project to provide major renovation to the building and grounds.
Designed by Glavovic Studio and Studio Roberto Rovira, the $1.5 million project will give the museum new and prominent visibility in Mizner Park.
Over the past 16 years the museum has been overshadowed by the Mizner Park Amphitheater: the main entrance to the museum currently appears as a side door and the loading dock gate currently fronts the restaurants and retail in Mizner Park, defaulting as the museum’s most noticeable facade, serving as the face of the museum.
The museum hopes that the renovation will change that. In addition to repainting and relighting the building, as well as introducing helpful signage, the museum’s new winding walkways will be lined with native grasses. The loading dock gate will be replaced with a 12-foot high screen of metal, mirrored and acrylic panels, allowing visitors the ability to see through the porous screen into the activities of the museum while also seeing their own reflections.
Along Federal Highway, the current deteriorating 250-foot long trellis will be replaced with a canopy of braided stainless steel cables, covered in mixed foliage to form shaded space, spanning 30 feet above the heads of pedestrians and casting bold shadows on the museum’s west facade.
